Martin is the Founder and Freelance Consultant at Open Goal Consulting Ltd, forming the consultancy service to help support Charities and Not-for-Profit organisations.

In the first 6 months of opening Open Goal Consulting Ltd, Martin secured a total of £200,000 in funding for a number of clients. This varied from capital funding to revenue based project funding.

Martin is currently pursuing an Executive MBA with Arden University. Professionally, he serves as the CEO of Accrington Stanley Community Trust, a multi-award-winning charity, where he brings extensive experience in business development.

Leading Accrington Stanley Community Trust since 2011, Martin has transformed the charity from a £89k turnover into a £1.5m + annual turnover. Nominated for the Kings Award for Voluntary Service and winner of several business awards. Martin created, developed and raised the full capital funds to build the £4m Stanley Sports Hub community facility, which opened in 2020 and has hosted professional and International teams.

Martin has brought in and managed over £10m of Charity income over the last 10 years. He has excellent knowledge and experience of funding streams and extensive successful bid writing expertise, with a proven track record of generating income. Martin has advised many charities and not-for-profit organisations over a number of years to help them achieve their goals.

Securing a £1 Grant from the Football Foundation

Presented evidence to the House of Lords for the ‘National Plan for Sport and Recreation’ in 2021. Featured on BBC One’s Football Focus in 2022. Hosted the Prime Minister in 2024 at Stanley Sports Hub.

A former Professional Footballer at Accrington Stanley and Semi Professional Footballer at clubs including Chester, Marine, Skelmersdale and Lancaster, with 500+ appearances over a career spanning 14 years. Part of the Accrington Stanley squad that won the Conference league title in 2006 that returned them to the English Football League. Martin has played against many Premier League and International footballers during his playing career, including the likes of Mikel Arteta, Phil Neville and Kieran Trippier. Holds the UEFA ‘B’ football coaching license and previously held the role of Goalkeeper coach within the Accrington Stanley Academy.
